In April 2022, the National State of Disaster that facilitated the SRD grant was terminated. Since President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement of the grant extension, however, the Department of Social Development is working to create a regulatory framework that will allow the grant payment.
The new SASSA R350 grant legislative framework has additional qualifying criteria and assessment criteria. This is why recipients must reapply if previously receiving assistance.
The department stated that the entire application process is still digital. This allows for quick access and fast turnaround times.

The department said that SASSA R350 grants will be considered from the month that applications are submitted. It will also be validated each month.

- After your chat is received, you will be asked to enter your ID number as well as the number of your cellphone that you used when you applied for the grant.
According to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), payments for the COVID-19 new social relief of distress (SRD) grant will be made starting in June 2022.
Grant payment of R350 will begin in mid-June 2022.
Millions of South Africans depended on social assistance and were forced to apply again for the grant after the State of Disaster expired. The grant was moved to a new legislative frame in April 2022.
Sassa stated that people who have reapplied and been approved would be eligible for the R350 grant starting in June.
“SASSA” will continue to clear outstanding payments from the previous cycle as long as the bank details have been confirmed.
“The monthly payments will not be made together, but each month.”
“You can make more than one payment in a given month, but you will not receive two equal payments.”

Hence, beneficiaries may be paid several times per month; however, only one payment of R350 per month will be made.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR APPLYING FOR SASSA SOCIAL GRANT?
The SASSA office closest to your home should be the place you apply. You can have a friend or relative apply on your behalf if you are too sick or too old to apply at the SASSA office. A home visit can also be arranged, but this may take some time.
SASSA officers must sign the application forms. As proof of your application, you will receive a receipt when you submit it. The application is non-. If your application is denied, you will be notified by mail. If your application is rejected, you have the right to appeal and request reconsideration.
All applicants must prove their identity. You may be able to provide other documentation to prove your identity if you don’t have a 13-digit, bar-coded Identification Book or a birth certificate for children. Contact your nearest SASSA office to find out what alternative documents can be accepted.
Additional documents are required: If you are married, please provide your ID and proof of your spousal relationship (marriage order, divorce order, or spouse’s certificate of death). You and your spouse must submit an affidavit or sworn statement detailing their income and assets. Additional documents are required to support your income and assets. Also, you must provide proof of income for dependent children.
The application process can take up to 90 days. Your first payment will include back-pay while you wait for your grant to be granted. This amount is calculated starting on the day you apply.
