Huawei GT2 Pro Watch
The Huawei GT2 Pro Watch is a GT 2 with wireless charging. It also has better materials. This Watch is similar to the GT 2e or this one. Although the specifications are nearly identical, some software upgrades have allowed for more performance with an older hardware model. It’s not worth upgrading, but it is worth looking into if you need wireless charging, titanium, ceramic, or sapphire glasses in your Watch.
This device has a new version: the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro. Huawei’s flagship watch features a larger display and a larger battery. The Watch also comes with Harmony OS 2.0 and improved build materials.
New tech generally arrives when there is, well, tech. Software is often just along for the ride. Huawei’s new Huawei Watch GT2 Pro seems to be the opposite. Huawei had new software in the works and created a watch to showcase it. The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is very similar to the GT 2e or 2e. Let’s get into the Huawei Watch GT 2 Review.
Notes on the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro: I have been using the GT 2 Pro for about a week now, mostly with software version 10.0.1.64. The Watch was updated to Lite OS 10.0.1.66 on the day this Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro review was published. This review only covers what I was able to access during the review, but I will update it with more information in the coming days.

Huawei GT2 Pro Watch Vs. GT 2 Vs. GT 2e: What’s New?
The biggest change here is the addition of wireless charging for the Pro and the use of new materials.
The GT 2 Pro has wireless charging and fancier materials like titanium, sapphire and ceramic.
The Pro’s exterior housing is slightly larger than the GT 2e and has an updated heart rate setup. The Pro, GT 2e, or regular GT 2 are all choices. It’s largely down to style, price, and whether you want titanium, sapphire, or ceramic on your smartwatch.
Huawei GT2 Pro Watch Design and Hardware
Anyone who follows Huawei’s GT 2 series will recognize the Watch GT 2 Pro. The Watch GT 2e, GT 2e, and GT 2 Pro look very similar but have different exteriors. The Watch GT 2e, GT 2e, and GT 2 Pro could all have been released at the same moment a year ago. They are basically the same Watch with different exteriors.
As I have said, I love chunky watches. I also like the GT 2 Pro styling. Although it’s not too large on my wrist, it may be a bit bulky for others.
The GT 2 Pro design is a combination of the GT 2e and 2e. It features enclosed lugs similar to the 2e but the same button style and buttons as the GT 2.
The GT 2 Pro design combines the GT 2e and 2e, but inside they are all the same.
NFC can be enabled for international units, but only Chinese units are allowed to use door-unlocking or contactless payment support.
The GT 2 Pro also features a powerful speaker, just like the GT 2. Bluetooth 5.1 allows you to use your phone while on the move up to 150m. The Watch can be used to answer and reject calls, play music from your phone or store it locally, and even listen to music through paired headphones. You have just over 2GB of storage for your personal stuff.
I love the GT 2 series’s ability to go on a bike with only my Watch and my earbuds. It’s not clear why you would play music over the speaker. I think it’s more useful for calls, but it is available if you have to. The GT 2 series’ smartwatch can get louder than a smartwatch. Both calls are clear and stable, as well as music playback via Bluetooth.
Similar to the black fluoroelastomer strap, so is the bezel size. The Pro’s diver’s watch bezel decoration was slightly less elaborated. We have removed the numerals to make way for a minimalist aesthetic.
A Porsche Design version comes with a titanium strap, Porsche Design branding on the top bezel and additional watch faces. A Classic version comes with a gray-brown leather strap. This is the Sport variant of the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro.
The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro has a premium feel. It’s more comfortable than its predecessors, and I appreciate some of its small improvements. You have to look for them, which is far from a “new” product. Even though I would not recommend the GT 2 Pro as an upgrade to an existing GT 2 device or GT 2 Pro, it may be worth considering if you want better materials or wireless charging.
The Huawei GT2 Pro Watch has a premium feel.
For scratch resistance, the sapphire glass used on the front and the heart rate sensor on the rear is a good ideas. The ceramic back feels great on the skin and doesn’t slip around as much as other plastic backings. Titanium is strong and durable. These are all great materials for a smartwatch, but they are not essential in terms of functionality or feature set unless your heart is really set on what your Watch is made from.
Huawei GT2 Pro Watch Wireless charging and long-lasting battery
Wireless charging is the main selling point. The Watch GT 2 Pro promises a 2-week battery life like its GT 2 siblings. The 5V/2A wireless charger takes approximately two hours to charge the 455mAh battery. Smart Power 2.0 optimizations are expected to be available for other GT series watches.
The charging puck works the same way as the pogo pin version, but it is “wireless” since it does not have pins. The Pro’s charging experience will be similar to the old watches with pogo pins for most people. This is due to the fact that some users have Qi wireless chargers in their homes or have Huawei phones with reverse wireless charging capabilities.
Wireless charging is more effective than those using Qi chargers at home or a Huawei smartphone with reverse charging.
The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro software version that I used for most of my review period showed a Pro using approximately 10% battery life daily. This is a decrease of 10 days compared to the claimed 14 days. If the software update happens last minute, battery life may be affected. I’ll update my review accordingly.
You can get an idea of how I used my phone. To do this, I disabled the always-on display (which usually reduces the battery life by half to one week). I set the do not disturb-setting from midnight to 8 am. This meant that there were no screen activations during the night. I did a few long walks and rode, tracking my activity with GPS.
I also went to the gym for some workouts. Automatic stress, sleep tracking, as well as heart rate monitoring were all enabled. I was able to stream music from my phone via Bluetooth and FreeBuds 3. This is normal usage, so the battery lasts 10 days. However, I have had no problems with other GT 2 series watches. This might change with the most recent update.

Huawei GT2 Pro Watch Software
Huawei’s Lite OS wearable platform is very lightweight and optimized to maximize battery life. Although I like its simplicity, my colleagues are not impressed by its lack of third-party support and advanced features.
I think everyone has their own opinions, but the Watch GT 2 Pro doesn’t offer the same smartwatch experience as a Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 in terms of software. However, it does provide better fitness tracking.
The app picker allows you to access some apps that are not on your home screen. It also provides more information than what you would get if you swipe through your main screens.
You can access the weather from the app picker. For example, you can swipe up to view the hourly outlook, forecast for the week, sunrise and sunset information over multiple days, moon phase and tidal information. This is a great addition that I hope will be ported to other GT 2 devices by way of an update.

The Watch GT 2 Pro can be used as a remote shutter for your camera if it is paired with a Huawei phone running EMUI 11. The Watch can be used to transfer photos from your Huawei smartphone to the Watch, for example, to make a watch face. NFC was enabled on my Watch, but I couldn’t get it to work. These features are not available on iPhones or non-Huawei android phones.
Huawei GT2 Pro Watch Fitness tracking
The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is able to track activity and exercise. The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro also has reliable sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, and stress level tracking. To increase the battery life, you can enable these features continuously or disable them altogether.
SpO2 monitoring has returned, and there will soon be a 24/7 setting. SpO2 readings on the Pro are 50% more efficient, so hopefully, this won’t affect battery life too much. We are not sure if this feature will be available for GT 2 watches.
There are 19 main activities for fitness tracking (12 outdoor, 7 indoors). These include all the common stuff like swimming, cycling and walking. Six of these activities are available to be auto-tracking (this can be disabled under Settings > Workout settings). Auto-tracking was not always reliable. It took me a while to recognize a particular walk. Sometimes it didn’t kick in at all.
The Pro now offers new activities, including skiing (including snowboarding) and golf (including the driving range). I didn’t have much access to snow in Europe during the summer lockdown, so I wasn’t able to verify the accuracy of this Huawei GT2 Pro Watch review. The same goes for golf, which I don’t enjoy.
The GT 2 Pro can track any type of activity or sport. You can find over 100 other options for fitness, exercise and activity tracking in the overflow menu. This covers all types of physical activities. You can track your data in everything from pilates and aerobics to ballet, belly dancing, and roller skating.
No matter what sport or activity you are involved in, the GT 2 Pro can keep track.
Over a dozen courses can be used by the Watch GT 2 Pro to guide you through different running levels. You can adjust the reminders that you receive during workouts and set all workout settings, including distance, calories burned, target times, and target times. Pro tip: When you unbox your Watch GT 2 Pro, immediately begin and pause a workout. Also, lower the volume of the voice coach to prevent it from yelling at people during a public workout.
Huawei Health in Huawei GT2 Pro Watch
While the Huawei GT2 Pro Watch provides a basic overview of your activity, the Huawei Health app is the real data mine. It has been updated with a new interface and offers more detailed information. The Huawei Health app provides detailed information on hourly, daily and weekly activity, SpO2, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, stress levels and more.
Huawei also modified the heart rate sensor at the back of the Watch GT 2 Pro. The Watch GT 2 Pro now has a 6-in-1 LED for better-converged light and heart-rate monitoring.
Huawei claims that “combined With AI smart heart rate algorithms,” heart rate monitoring is faster and more accurate. My experience with the GT 2 was similar to my usual, and my SpO2 levels were the same. However, your mileage may vary.

Huawei GT2 Pro Watch Alternatives
The Huawei GT2 Pro Watch will retail for EUR329 (Sport) or EUR349 (Classic) and will be available starting this month. This is a very high price considering that the Watch GT 2e provides a similar experience and is currently available for EUR145/PS140. The Watch GT 2e is EUR179.99/PS170.
Update: Huawei Germany offers a lower Watch GT 2 Pro Price for the Sport and Classic versions of the Watch GT 2 Pro. The Classic version is EUR299, while the Classic version is EUR299 with a complimentary body fat scale. This offer will be valid until October 2. Huawei France offers both models at the exact same price but comes with a pair of FreeBuds 3i.)
You can also get a Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 and a Galaxy Watch 3 outside of the Huaweisphere for just a little more than EUR100.
The Apple Watch Series 3 costs only EUR210, while the new Apple Watch Series 5 costs only EUR409. Although they may not be made of the exact same materials, they have far more features and are much cheaper. The Watch GT 2 Pro is a strong competitor in every way.
Huawei GT2 Pro Watch Review: The Final Verdict
Although the Huawei GT2 Pro Watch does not replace an older smartwatch, it offers some interesting new features.
Although wireless charging is not life-changing, it’s an improvement. While the new build materials are nice, they don’t change how the Watch works. Their software features might influence the purchase decision between the GT 2 series watches.
As I was with the previous versions, I love the Watch GT 2 Pro. The software is simple and easy to use, as well as the battery life and build quality. The software is straightforward, but some will find the lack of third-party app support frustrating. There are also limitations with advanced features on non-Huawei phones.
Although the GT 2 Pro isn’t a smartwatch, it fits within the scope of the Huawei watch ecosystem.
