How To Screenshot On HP Laptop – Guide For Windows 7, 8 & 10
Step 1 – Use Print Screen Key
You can take a screenshot on your HP laptop using its built-in print screen button as follows: First all open the document or image you wish to take a screenshot of. Then press the ” PrtScn” button on your keyboard (located next to F12).
If you are using another HP laptop model other than EliteBook or ProBook, it might have an alternative key for printing screen function such as “Fn + PrtScn”.
If you are using Windows 7 operating system, the print screen will be immediately saved in your clipboard. This means that whatever you copy can now be pasted somewhere else.
The file name is also not important since what matters is the image itself and its content only.
In this case you would need to paste it into Paint application first before saving it to your desired location (Note: Open Paint by clicking on Start menu and type “Paint”. Its icon should appear so click on it to open it).
If you are using Windows 8, the print screen will be automatically saved in your default pictures folder.
In case your laptop has a key combination different from PrtScn (e.g.: Fn + PrtScn for HP laptops), please follow our guide How To Take A Screenshot On Your HP Laptop
Step 2 – Using The Snipping Tool
As mentioned earlier, if the first method doesn’t work then this is where you would need to use the snipping tool by Microsoft. This handy tool enables you to capture screenshots and record your screen as well depending on what version of Windows 10 you are running. Here’s how:
First all click on search icon and type “snipping”. Its icon should appear so make sure to click on it.
Secondly, you have 2 options under the Mode section of this sub menu: Free-form Snip, Rectangular Snip.
If you wish to capture an entire web page all by its width for example then select Free-form Snip (which is great for saving screenshots from full screen video games) or if you want to capture a specific rectangular area within your screen then select Rectangular snip. After making your selection press Enter .
Thirdly, move the cursor to where you want the snips to start capturing until it turns into a + sign as shown in our screenshot above then drag downwards till it reaches where you want the snips to end.
This will let you capture an entire section of your screen as follows:
Once done, click on New . Another submenu would appear with several options. Make sure to select whether you want to attach a copy of the screenshot or email it.
Then finally click on Save As and type in a name for your file. That’s it! You’ve successfully saved a screenshot using the snipping tool instead of the print-screen button.
Conclusion
As you can see, there are two ways of taking Screenshot on HP laptop. The first one involves using the built-in print screen button while the second one is done by opening the snipping tool and following its instructions.
Newer models come with a dedicated key just for taking screenshots but older ones may not have it so that’s why we’ve included a list of all available options to choose from. We hope this guide was helpful! If you liked this post then please share it with your friends and family!
